ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S#1431683. Bbl. 24". Barrel marked behind front sight "SA""flaming bomb" and "6-31". Ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards w/o volley notch. Dished elevation knob. Flat windage knob. Blade front sight with protective hood. Receiver dates to 1933. Bolt appears to be a conversion of a 1903-A3 to a straight down handle. The is evidence of grinding at bolt root w/ slight heat discoloration. Marked NS under safety lug. Small gas hole. All milled furniture including grooved trigger & smooth trap buttplate. Straight grip Walnut stock w/ two recoil bolts marked "A" in cutoff recess. Stock is marked on left side over trigger guard w/ boxed "POD-D" & boxed "BA-WL" indicating arsenal inspection or overhaul at the Philippine Ordnance Depot & Benicia Arsenal. Marked under grip with 2 "P" proofs, one of which is encircled. Well worn WWI period leather sling. Markings are illegible. Sling has scuffing & cracking. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel plated oiler in butt. CONDITION: stock has retained it original finish w/ moderate wear & handling marks throughout plus has legible markings. Metal retains 70% worn, thinning parkerized finish w/ sm. scratches & handling marks. Bore has strong rifling w/ frosted appearance in grooves. (24-1357/RW). Curio. $700-1,000.
