STREET HORSE PATROL." Cal. 67. NSN. The bow street horse patrol was formed in 1763 to rid London of highwaymen. The patent was quite successful & after the highwaymen were eradicated, the patrol was disbanded. The highwaymen returned. The 9" rnd. bbl. w/ military style turnings at rear is stamped w/ Birmingham proofs & engraved "Bow Street Horse Patrol" on top. Lock w/ slightly chamfered arched plate is fitted w/ flat faced reinforced cock, integral rnd. pan w/ fence, unbridled frizzen & featherspring w/ spear finial. Center of lock is engraved "BLAKE" (George, working 1874-91). Elmwood stock w/ plain bag grip has simple brass trigger guard & S-shaped sideplate, extends to muzzle & is pinned to bbl. A plain wooden ramrod is held by single beaded & flared pipe. CONDITION: good. Iron parts cleaned to gray/brown over light pitting. Stock w/ old oil refinish has some worm holes. Brass is nicely toned. Bore is lightly pitted. Lock is operable. (01-20858/MGM). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
