GUN BY JOHN MACPHERSON OF INVERNESS. Cal. 12 Ga., 2". S# 90800. The dovetailed 28" bbls. are inlaid in silver "FOR 2 INCH CASE ONLY" on matted Churchill rib. Tops of bbls. engraved "John MacPherson & Sons" "Gunmakers. Inverness" (not found in Nigel Brown Vol. 2). There are 1" triangles of scroll engraving at breech ends. Bbl. flats stamped w/ Birmingham nitro proofs for 2" chambers & 1 1/8 oz. of shot. Importer's name & address (Woodcock Hill) are on bottom rib. Case hardened boxlock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold) & dbl. triggers. Action engraved w/ sprays of scroll w/in geometric borders. Maker's name is on long ribbon flanked by scroll on each side. Straight grip buttstock of plain European Walnut measures 14 3/4" over "Silver" type pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip & vacant silver oval is on toeline. Matching short splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: bbls.: bore diameter: right: .727", left: .726". Restriction: right: .021" (MOD), left: .027" (IMOD). Minimum Wall Thickness: right: .016", left: .017". STOCK: DAH: 2 1/4". DAC: 1 1/2+". LOP: 14 3/4". CAST: approx. 1/4" off. WEIGHT: 5 lbs. 13 oz. CONDITION: fine as completely refinished. Bbls. retain nearly all of a quality reblack, rib matting somewhat softened, otherwise engraving picked up. Action retains nearly all of a fairly good looking recolor, engraving a bit soft. Top lever, floorplate & trigger guard retain nearly all of their new blue w/ engraving recut. Stocks retain nearly all of a new rubbed oil finish w/ faint marks, checkering competently recut. Bores are bright & shiny w/ evidence of professional dent removal in right bbl. about 10" back from muzzle. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are in time. (21-3982/MGM).
