LOT OF 3 GERMAN WWI DRESS BAYONETS.
1) GERMAN 1871 ARTILLERY DRESS BAYONET. Overall length 24". Blade length 19 1/4". Brass handle w/o spring release as-is correct for artillery models. Blade has unit marking that reads "5. Bad.Feld-Artill. Regt. No. 76" for the 76th (5th Baden) Field Artillery. Opposite side of blade reads "Zur Erinnerzung an meine Diensfzeif" meaning "As a reminder of my duty". Both sides of blade have engraving w/ knights, leaves & horses. Brass handle. Leather frog, Portapee & scabbard w/ brass fittings. CONDITION: brass handle is a dull yellow patina w/ some oxidation staining. Blade remains mostly bright w/ some light oxidation & fine scratches. Leather shows scattered crazing & flaking. 2) GERMAN 1871 ARTILLERY DRESS BAYONET. Overall length 24". Blade length 19 1/4". Brass handle w/o spring release as-is correct for artillery models. One side of blade has "W.K&C" maker marking & unit marking that reads "2.Kurhess.Feld-Artill.Rgt.No47." for the 47th (2nd Kurhessian) Field Artillery. Both sides of blade have artillery & horse scenes w/ floral engraving. Brass handle. Leather scabbard w/ brass fittings. CONDITION: brass parts are a dull yellow patina w/ scattered oxidation & light dings. Blade remains mostly bright w/ some fine scratches & specks of oxidation. Leather scabbard seam is loose & coming apart. Leather otherwise shows scattered crazing & flaking. 3) GERMAN 1898 DRESS BAYONET. Overall length 25 3/4". Blade length 20 5/16". Nickel finish. Wooden grooved handles. One side of blade is marked "3. Infant. Rgt. Prinz Carl Von Bayern" for the 3rd Bavarian infantry regiment & has a "W.K.&C" makers marking. Other side of blade is marked "In Treune Fest". Both sides of blade have floral engraving. Leather scabbard w/ nickel fittings. CONDITION: grips show some light cracks & scattered handling wear. Nickel parts show some moderate flaking & oxidation. Leather scabbard shows scattered flaking & dings. PROVENANCE: from the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18710/MJC). $400-700.
