American, 19th century. A personal leather carrying case with needlepoint stitching, having a blue base with central decorative medallion and initials M.A.R. form Marcus Albert Reno, overall leather bag with loss and deterioration with age, metal clasp in tact, leather strap has been broken off but is present with the bag. 

This personal leather case was made for Major Marcus Albert Reno, 7th Calvary, by his sister, Mrs. Cornelia Knowles. This bag is said to be carried by Major Reno on the expeditions of the 7th calvary. Major Reno and Captain Frederick William Benteen saved the shattered 7th cavalry & #34;remains& #34; from the fate of George Armstrong Custer and his 5 troops of the 7th calvary at the Battle of Little Big Horn 1876.
