DESCRIPTION
Letter from Cincinnati describing several American Indian diplomats, including a Winnebago Chief, traveling to Washington, D.C. to negotiate a treaty. The treaty likely refers to a treaty ratified March 3, 1855, in which the Winnebago sold land previously granted to them in a prior treaty in exchange for a "permanent home" in Minnesota near the La Serror fork of the Blue Earth River. The treaty was signed by nine representatives; the letter mentioning eight. Includes stampless cover with February 15 date stamp. **Good condition overall. Some wear to corners and edges with some fading of ink.** $100-$300
