Lot of Two (2) Post-Civil War Veterans/Cadet Kepis: (1) New York Albany Zouave Cadets kepi, with brass insignia at the front. Dark blue felt body with woven dark green bands and stripes. Gold-colored eagle buttons for the chinstrap. Leather chinstrap with brass adjustment fitting. Thick leather brim/visor has a sewn edge cover. Inside has a black lining with faint maker's mark in the center and brown leather sweat band. Nice brass badge emblem in front with red painted center for the Albany Zouave Cadets 1860. Condition is good, with little to no mothing to the wool felt body. Patent leather visor shows crazing and cracks with losses to the leather edge cover. Chinstrap is sound with typical patent leather crazing. Interior is good with intact sweat band, and lining a bit loose. (2) 11th Washington (D.C.) kepi for the Uniform Rank of the Knights of Pythias, with bullion embroidered insignia and lettering. The Knights of Pythias had as members, many Civil War veterans. The Uniform Rank held drills and parades. They fell out of popularity, due to an aging membership, just after WW1. Black wool body with blue wool top. Bullion red diamond insignia in center with embroidered Lily, and silver bullion letters spelling ''WASHINGTON'' below. Front has embroidered bullion wreath and number ''11''. Silver cord chinstrap with silver buttons having flower design. Thick patent leather visor/brim. Blue silk interior with silver stamped maker's mark of ''The M.C. Lilley & Co.'' trademark. Also has gold paper initials inside that read ''SSM''. Size 6-7/8. Condition is very good with no mothing to the body, oxidation to the silver bullion embroidery and chinstrap, and a nice intact lining. Black leather sweat band shows minor scuffing. Patent leather visor has the typical crazing and cracking lines. Est.: $400-$600/lot.
