Lot of Two (2) WWI Era Flare Pistols, by Chubb & Schermuly: 1.) Hard-to-Find Brass Flare Pistol by Chubb, London & Wolverhampton, dated 1916, #779, 25mm, 4-1/8'' barrel; left side of frame and barrel with broad arrow and misc. proofmarks; right side with Chubb, London, fish logo. Includes lanyard loop and smooth two-piece wood grips; left grip with ''D9'' in white paint. Extractor, barrel, and frame with matching numbers. Condition is very good. Brass with general shallow impressions and other small marks; factory lettering, proof marks, etc. are clear. Grips with oil darknening and handling marks, no chips or cracks. Good action and bore. 2.) Schermuly Brass Flare Pistol, #5275, 25mm, 6'' barrel; left side of frame is stamped ''SCHERMULY'S/PAT. NO503324/S4''; left side of barrel with London proofmarks. Smooth two-piece wood grips. Barrel and frame with matching numbers. Condition is good. Brass shows toning and some verdigris. Hammer, trigger, and latch are dark with some very fine pitting and mild rust spots. Grips shows age and wear consistent with the rest of the pistol, including oil darkening and handling marks. Good action and lightly pitted bore. Est.: $300-$400/lot.
