Lot of Three (3) Indian ''Bullova'' Axes, from the Chota Nagpur area of India with different shaped axe heads: (1) The first is a 9'' wide blade with two forward facing spikes, and two spikes on top and bottom. It has a hand-forged eyelet for mounting, that has some engraved decorations. The 35'' round wood shaft has brass reinforcing band at the top and four brass bands around the middle. Two of the bands surround a steel band to retain the axe head. Condition is good, the axe head showing age darkening and rust stains, but no pitting. Wood shaft has a nice dark age patina, with some old gouges and is missing the brass band at the bottom. (2) The second axe has a half-moon shaped blade measuring 7'' wide with a hand forged eyelet for mounting. The 35'' round wooden shaft has a brass band at the top, and one band just below the axe head. There is a thin steel plate wrapped around the shaft to help retain the head. Condition is good, the blade showing evidence of hand forging, dark age graying, and dark rust stains. Wood shaft has a dark patina with a couple of small gouges, and is missing the brass band at the bottom. (3) The third axe has a 10'' curved blade with a hand-forged eyelet that has a small hammer head shape and incised lines around the edge. The 37'' round wood shaft has brass reinforcing bands at the top and bottom, and one just under the axe head. There is a decorated steed band wrapped around the shaft to help retain the axe head. Condition is good with evidence of hand forging in the blade, age graying, dark rust patina, and a few heavy edge nicks. Wood shaft has a dark patina with some light scratches and dings.
