Lot of Two (2) Antique Japanese Fuchi/Kashira Sets: (1) Samurais, ca. Edo period, late 18th to early 19th Century. Nice set of matching fuchi and kashira handle fittings done in shakudo with silver, copper, and gold highlights, featuring high relief carvings of samurai warriors, in a boat on waves, and standing with swords and naginata pole arm. From an old Japanese tale of battle. They are mumei (unsigned). The fuchi measures 3.8cm x 2.3cm x 1.4cm, and the kashira is 3.4cm x 1.8cm x 1.0cm. Condition is very good showing light oxidation overall, and some wear to the gold overlay on the high edges from use. In wooden storage box, with fact sheet from a Japanese sword dealer, dated 2015. (2) Carp, signed, ca. Edo period, Late 18th to early 19th Century. Great set of matching fuchi and kashira handle fittings done in dark copper with carved designs in low relief of carp with small gold eyes in waves. The work is well executed and detailed. The fuchi is signed on the bottom "Naomichi saku". Worthy of further research on the maker. The fuchi measures 3.8cm x 2.2cm x 1.3cm and the kashira measures 3.4cm x 1.7cm x .9cm. Condition is very good showing age and light use, mild oxidation, and a wonderful dark reddish brown patina. There is a small spot of verdigris on the kashira end and some old glue residue on the inside of the kashira. In wood storage box with pillow. Est.: $500-$800/Lot.
