Lot of Two (2) Antique Long Arms: (1) British Single-Barrel Percussion Shotgun, by Purdey of London, NVSN, approx. 12 ga./.75 cal., 33.25'' round-to-octagon barrel has cannon-turn ring at juncture, post front sight, two platinum bands with floral engraving at breech, marked ''London'' on top flat; serpentine lockplate is floral engraved and marked ''Purdey''; furniture includes scrolled steel trigger guard with pineapple front tang and rear finger-rest, shotgun buttplate, one steel and two brass ferrules retaining the brass-tipped hardwood ramrod, two oval German-silver barrel key escutcheons and matching nosecap; varnished English walnut halfstock is checkered at wrist. Condition is about good, the steel with a smooth dark brown patina (pitting at trigger guard, buttplate and nipple area). Stock is broken and patched at wrist with long cracks from trigger guard to stock comb at right, comb to trigger guard at left, length of forearm, and losses along both sides at barrel juncture. Action is strong; bore shows general black-powder pitting. (2) U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Infantry Rifle, #251339, .45-70 Gov't. cal., 32-5/8'' round barrel with standard sights, marked ''V/P/(eaglehead)/P'' at breech, trapdoor with ''US/Model/1873'' at hinge; flat lockplate marked ''(spread-wing eagle)/U.S./Springfield''; steel fittings include two-piece trigger guard with sling swivel, curved buttplate marked ''US'' at top screw, two spring-retained bands (front with stacking swivel), nosecap, plain rod; one-piece oil-stained walnut fullstock with inspector's cartouche opposite lock. Condition is good to very good, the metal surfaces showing a dark, light-to-moderately-etched brown patina that should improve with cleaning. Stock is solid with the scattered scars/gouges of military use and a present but indistinct left-side cartouche. Action is strong; bore is dirty/crusty with distinct rifling. Est.: $500-$700/lot.
