Lot of Two (2) Antique Military Academy Training Rifles From the Late 1800's. 1.) The rifle was made using parts from an M1863 musket. Lockplate is marked with an "(eagle)" next to "U.S./SPRINGFIELD", with "1863" behind the hammer. Metal finish has gone to a dull brown. The unmarked barrel is 31" long and made of wood that has been painted black. Ramrod is 1" longer than the barrel. Stock is very good, with a few handling marks. Action works properly. 2.) This rifle was made to work like an M1873 trapdoor rifle. Trapdoor works but the hammer/trigger does not, leaving the hammer loose. Receiver is white with areas of light rust. Wooden barrel is 30" long and painted black. Stock shows considerable wear, mostly on the right side. Est.: $150-$250/lot. (Non-gun)
