Lot of Two (2) French Bayonets: 1.) French Model 1866 Chassepot Yataghan Sword/Bayonet with scabbard, 22-3/4" blade, 27-5/8" overall, hooked quillon, brass handle, with steel scabbard. Blade spine has no maker's marks. Condition is fair overall, blade is good. Blade is predominantly bright with some mild pitting, rust, and staining. Handle with an overall dark patina. Quillon and scabbard with an overall rust patina. 2.) French Model 1874 Gras Bayonet with matching scabbard, 20-1/2" blade, 25-1/2" overall, hooked quillon, wood handle, with steel scabbard. Maker's mark on back edge of blade "St. Etienne" and dated "1878". Condition is fair overall; blade is very good. Blade is predominantly bright with some very mild pitting and small spots of rust staining. Handle shows moderate age and wear. Quillon and scabbard with an overall rust patina. The overall condition of both bayonets would likely improve with a thorough cleaning. Est.: $100-$200/Lot.
