Lot of Two (2) Military Hats: (1) Post-WWII French Foreign Legion Kepi, black wool body with red wool top, with black patent leather visor and black leather chinstrap. Inside is lined with black satin, black leather sweat band, and plastic sweat cover at the top, showing Paris maker's stamp to top lining. Affixed to the front is a pin-backed winged propeller device with copper-colored band that is engraved ''France''. Pin is a silver-colored metal and may pre-date the hat. (2) German/Bavarian Fore and Aft Cap, dating from the mid-1860's to late 1880's, with button, and roundels having the royal cipher of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Body of the cap is covered in black beaver skin, with black silk ribbon around the edges. There is a rosette of silver and red woven bullion, with a decoratively woven gold bullion band and gold gilt button. At either end are roundel-decorated thick silver bullion rope and blue wool centers, with gold gilt crowned ''L'' devices. The lining is white silk with a white leather sweat band. In the center top is a gold printed crowned logo for ''Deutche Industrie''. Condition is good, with wear to the edges of the outside body at the brim, and a couple of worn spots on top edges of the hat. Centers of the roundels on each end have moth damage to the blue wool centers, with losses to the material. Sweat band has some minor cracks and the silk lining has some soiling. Overall, it shows age and use, normal for something of that time period. Est.: $250-$500/lot.
