Lot of Two (2) Spanish Steel Reworked Helmets: (1) Reworked to look like a WWII German M35 SS helmet, repainted inside and out, with modern reproduction SS and national shield decals, replacement liner with original German band, and replacement chinstrap. No visible stamped markings inside. Condition is good, the helmet has been repainted, artificially aged, and shows scratches, chips, and paint losses. Decals have been obscured to simulate wear and age. Has a spurious name written inside the rear lip "August Haefner". Inside has been painted and aged to look worn. Liner band is original but the rivets fit loose and the leather looks like a modern replacement. Liner is dark brown, shows cracks and wear, but still smells of new leather. Chinstrap is a modern replacement. (2) Reworked to look like a WWII German M35 SS helmet, original gray/green paint, removed Spanish front lug, rivet type vents, modern reproduction SS and national shield decals, original German liner band, old replacement leather eight-tongue liner, possibly old original German chinstrap. Condition is good, the outer surface shows original Spanish gray green paint with chips, scratches, scuffs, paint losses, two small holes in front and solder residue from removing the Spanish front lug, with scratches and rusted bare metal in that area. The inside shows a lighter green rough textured paint that may have been repainted at some time, showing scratches, minor paint losses, and age. Liner rivets fit loose and are missing some of the internal washers. Decals have been chipped to resemble wear and age. Liner band may be an old original German band, the leather looks like a replacement type that shows heavy soiling, scuffs, and age, with a leather drawstring. Chinstrap shows age, dry leather, and cracking, but might be an old original German strap. Est.: $400-$600/lot.
