DESCRIPTION
Lot includes two 1885-dated souvenir cabinet cards, the largest measuring 4.25" x 6", purchased from Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. One with note on bottom of image stating it shows "Kicking Bear" (Minneconjou Lakota, Mato Wanahtake, 1846-1904) and "Short Bull" (Sicangu Lakota, Tatanka Ptecela, 1845-1923). Second image depicts an unknown Indian man, well-dessed with wrapped braids, pipe, and feather fan. Kicking Bear and his brother-in-law Short Bull were well-known Ghost Dance supporters, and taught many of those living on the Montana reservations such as Pine Ridge and Standing Rock. After the death of Sitting Bull in 1890, the two men were arrested and interned at Fort Sheridan. They were released in order to tour with Buffalo Bill's West Show for the 1891-1892 season, and were shipped back to the United States for a return to Fort Sheridan when they insisted on an early return. Kicking Bear was a veteran of the Battle of the Little Bighorn. **Good condition overall. Some minor wear to corners and edges.** $100-$300
