Lot of two books from a local estate. The lot includes two titles: “Practical Rifle Shooting” by Walter Winans, marked “MUMMA” in numerous locations. The first edition was published in 1906 and wasthe property of Admiral Morton C. Mumma, a veteran of WWII and the president of the National Rifle Association from 1955 to 1957. Mumma was a noted marksman, instructor and member of the National Board for thePromotion of Rifle Practice. The second title, “Firing Regulations for Small Arms” and is dated 1904. The book is marked property of Charles E. Stodter with his obituary in the front cover. Stodter was a West Point graduate, veteran of the Spanish American War, Philippines Insurrection, Mexican Border Campaigns and WWI. Stodter would later serve as a coach for the US International Olympic and Rifleteams. Both books wound up with our consignor who was friends with these gentlemen and lived near them in the Coronado area of San Diego. Est.: $100-$200.
