Lucius W. Pond Tip-Up Spurtrigger Cartridge Revolver, #201, .32 RF cal., 3-7/8'' octagonal barrel, with tall brass blade front sight marked ''L.W. Pond Worcester, Mass.'' on top flat, and ''Patd. July 10, 1860.'' on left angled flat; 6-shot round cylinder; rounded iron frame with integral gripstraps features a left-side push-bar that releases the barrel for loading/spent cartridge removal; square butt has a unique knurled-head screwdriver that threads into the butt; two-piece varnished rosewood grips. Mfg'd ca. 1861-70 in a very small quantity due to its infringement on Smith & Wesson's bored-thru cylinder design patent. Condition is very good. Metal surfaces are a smooth unblemished gunmetal gray color, grips are smooth and solid with some original varnish finish, barrel hinge and release are secure, screwdriver is present in butt, and all visible serial numbers match. Action is smooth; bore is clean with scattered black powder etching and defined rifling. This Pond revolver, with its spring-actuated barrel release bar, is considered a scarce variant. Est.: $300-$500. (Antique)
