German made bolt-action centerfire rifle chambered for 7.62x51 NATO, and manufactured by Ludwig Lowe Arms Company out of Berlin, Germany. Ludwig Loewe was also a partial owner of Mauser Waffenfabrik beginning in 1887, and the two companies consolidated in 1896. In consequence, all rifles marked with 'Ludwig Loewe' are considered antiques by U.S. Federal law. This is a contract rifle produced for the Chilean military by Ludwig Loewe & Company from 1895 until 1896, and then later by the Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) until 1900. Rifle features a blued finish, an approximately 29" round barrel, dovetailed inverted 'V' front sight, tangent rear sight graduated to 2000 meters, stripper clip guide cut into receiver, checkered three position flag type manual safety, cleaning rod under barrel, in-the-white turned-down bolt handle, in-the-white bolt body, smooth curved trigger, bayonet lug, and a left receiver rail mounted bolt release. The hardwood furniture consists of a smooth straight gripped shoulder stock, smooth forend, smooth handguard, sling swivel on the barrel band, sling swivel on the bottom of the shoulder stock, and a smooth metal butt plate. Receiver ring is marked with the Chilean crest, and the left receiver rail is marked 'MAUSER CHILENO MODELO 1895, MANUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIN'. Serial numbers are non-matching. A Chilean crest cartouche can be seen on left side of the shoulder stock. No import marks were observed. The original blued finish retained is approximately 10% with normal handling blemishes, and the finish is taking on a mottled gray patina. Metal displays some abrasive marks on the receiver, grinding marks on the bolt handle, and some light nicks and dings. Furniture Wood is in good condition with minor small dents and nicks. Action functions well, but feels really stiff. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The rear sight slider is bent and moves somewhat freely.
Condition is NRA Good.
