M1805 HARPERS FERRY FLINTLOCK PISTOL.
Cal. 54. S# 881. Bbl. measures 10”. The total production of this rare American flintlock pistol was 4,096. Of this number, approximately 2,580 were dated 1807. Bbl. is proofed on the left side w/ eagle head over “P” & “US” in an oval. The serial number “881” is stamped in front of the US proof. The model 1805 pistol was the first military handgun produced by the National Armory. It is believed that the guns were numbered & issued in pairs, therefore of the 4,096 pistols manufactured, the highest serial number would be 2,048 as each pistol in a pair was numbered identically. Pistol is original flint w/ original lock intact. Lock features a spread winged American eagle over “US” in front of the cock and “HARPERS FERRY 1807” to the rear of the cock. Brass trigger guard, buttcap, side plate, nose band & entry thimble. There is an iron ramrod thimble housing a wooden ramrod below the iron rib under the bbl. A cartouche can still be seen on the stock just to the rear of the side plate. A wonderful opportunity to obtain one of the most prized & sought after of American military pistols. CONDITION: iron has a medium to dark gray mottled patina. Brass has been cleaned but has reacquired a light mustard patina. Lock holds both full & half cock & the action is very crisp. Wood is solid w/ a few minor dents & dings as would be expected in a military pistol that is over 200 years old. Bore is good showing minor oxidation. (01-18424/BF). ANTIQUE. $13,000-16,000.
