FRANKONIA, FINELY ENGRAVED WITH SCOPE. Cal. 416 Rigby. S# 200689. Bbl. 24" robust round tapered fitted with sleeved on rear base for one standing, one folding leaf express rear sight. Silver bead front is in matted front ramp. A sling eye is also banded on. Left rear portion of bbl. marked with Belgian nitro proofs & caliber. Magnum length extended FN Mauser action fitted with claw scope bases, front base in soldered on raised block to avoid dovetail in receiver ring. Engine turned bolt with low scope safety has top of knob checkered. A Timney trigger has been fitted. Drop box bottom metal has hinged straddle floorplate held by button in trigger guard bow. Action engraved with near full coverage nicely cut open shaded scroll. Floorplate has this scroll surrounding scene of snarling tiger guarding its prey. Scroll engraving is also found at rear of barrel, on rear sight block, along sides of front sight base, and sling band. Top of barrel engraved "WAFFEN-FRANKONIA WURZBURG". Nicely veined and lightly figured European walnut steel capped pistol grip stock measures 14 3/8" over red Old English pad over two 1/4" spacers 13" to end of wood. Stock features well shaped swept shadow line right hand cheekpiece, rosewood forend tip, recoil crossbolt, and well cut point pattern checkering at grip and forend. Rifle is fitted with Zeiss Diatal - C 4X scope with duplex reticle in claw rings, rear with windage. WEIGHT: with scope 10 lbs. 15 oz. CONDITION: fine. Metal parts retain 85-90% original blue with some rubs and marks, as one would expect from a rifle that has seen a few safaris. Stock also has some scratches and dings in its original finish with an area crazing in what is most likely a small factory repair at right front of recoil bolt. Bore is fine, shiny with strong rifling throughout, perhaps just a hint of throat erosion. Action is smooth. Scope has a number of deep rubs, mostly on left side of ocular bell and a ding in top cap. Optically clear. A well thought out and nicely appointed rifle by this well known Bavarian firm. (20-874/MGM71). MODERN. $9,000-12,000.
