DONATION:
“Markhor Majesty” - Original acrylic painting on canvas by New Zealand artist Gloriana Pilgrim, measures 22” x 30”.
“Markhor Majesty” is a stunning portrait of a majestic Bukharan markhor standing tall on a rocky face in the harsh landscape of Central Asia.
In decline for many years and approaching extinction with less than 100 animals in the 1980s, the markhor population was saved by modern day conservation through hunting.
By adding value to these unique mountain goats the local tribesmen who had previously poached them became their protectors.
Local villages now celebrate the successful hunt of an old markhor as it is the pinnacle achievement of their conservation efforts of these precious animals and 80% of the funds from these hunts stays in the local community.
The markhor population is now safe from extinction and this model of conservation through hunting is a modern-day conservation successful story.
Gloriana Pilgrim is a New Zealand artist and has had many adventures into the mountains with her husband Zion Pilgrim who is a long-time hunting guide and supporter of the Wild Sheep Foundation.
Gloriana’s ability to capture the essence of these incredible animals in their natural habitat comes from time spent in the mountains and her appreciation of the beauty of God’s creation.
