MARLIN BALLARD No. 3 GALLERY FALLING BLOCK RIFLE.

Cal. 22 Long RF. S# 21903. Bbl. is matching numbered heavy 24" (offered in 26", 28" and 30" as well) octagon (matching forend too) with brass blade sight in dovetailed base plus circular disk attached to standard elevator adjustable rear sight to create peep sight. Mfg. 1889 (1876-1891); similar to No. 2 Sporting Rifle but in small calibers (22 Short RF or Long RF). Marlin Fire Arms Co. marked nickel plated receiver, lever and buttplate; case colored breechblock. Simple forend with slight flare at tip. Nicely figured buttstock. CONDITION: good to very good overall appearance having beginning patina tone to barrel and peppery fading to plating showing mainly on right side of receiver and on buttplate. Numerous light marks on metal and wood finish that appears original. Very faint hairline cracks in buttstock at 10 to 12 o'clock position at frame juncture. Good case colors on breech block and hammer. Factory drilled and tapped tang sight holes have plug screws and slight witness marks of prior installation. Good bore with wear and even faint cleaned pitting. PROVENANCE STATEMENT: Estate collection of Thomas F. Wolfinger. (01-22167/NW). ANTIQUE. $900-1,400.
