SKULL. This massive beast roamed the Earth most recently, 28,000 - 27,000 years ago. The Cave Bear (Ursus Speleaus) was plentiful around, and remains discovered in England, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Spain, Italy, and Greece. This particular example came from the Bihor Mountains of Romania & is estimated to be 30,000-50,000 years old. To give an idea of just how massive this skull really is, for comparison, the B&C World Record Alaskan Brown Bear measures 17 15/16" in length, while this behemoth measures in at 20". In very nice condition, the entire skull has a tan to brown hue & is very complete, even including all teeth. The lower jaw is in 2 pieces, though remaining complete. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18966/JZ) $6,000-10,000.
