1805. Cals.22 bore (about 60). Both NSN. A fine pair of gentleman’s pistols by among the most revered London gunmaker of his day Durs Egg (1748-1831). Bbls. 8" oct. to rnd. w/ wedding ring transitions, top flats marked "D. EGG - LONDON" and starburst engraving on upper 3 flats, London proofs on left rear flat. Breech iron has armorial & floral engraving with edge line borders en suite with chamfered locks w/ rear sliding safeties signed under pans “D. EGG”. Cocks and bridled frizzens are border edge engraved en suite. Lightly figured European walnut have brass furniture with border edge lined engraved en suite. Sideplate, buttcap, and trigger bow are florally engraved. Trigger guard terminates into acorn shaped finial. Wrists are fitted w/ vacant large oval brass thumb plates. Hardwood ramrods have bone tips. CONDITION: Fine overall, all matching and original, clear markings though one address a bit weak from typical early bbl. refinish, retaining 90% thin striped re-browned bbls. and breech irons. Locks & cocks are overall bright/gray. Pin-prick pitting around breeches, stocks well fit with hand worn patina with most of their original varnish though thinning. Brass has medium mustard patina. Mechanically crisp with bright smooth bores, one bbl. has scattered pitting. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of George W. Browning. (01-16138 (2)/DS). ANTIQUE. $5,000-9,000.
