MID 18TH CENTURY FLINTLOCK FOWLER OR FUSIL.

Cal. 70. NSN. This Short Land musket styled Fusil has 37 1/2" bbl. w/ illegible marking on top (possibly Moore). Bbl. shows evidence of having been reconverted. Good quality sm. sized lock has plate w/ rebated tail, serpentine chamfered cock, inset pan, bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ bulbous finial. A sliding safety is present, which engages at half cock. Dark finished walnut stock is of early styling w/ deeply fluted comb, raised platform around bbl. tang & palm swell. Furniture is of brass & of mid 18th century style w/ acorn finial to trigger guard. CONDITION: bbl. is browned to relatively smooth patina w/ heat discoloration at breech end. Lock is gray to brown w/ smooth surfaces. Stock w/ old black finish shows some epoxy repairs along bottom of lock mortise & at bbl. mounting pins. Some minor loses of wood along bbl. channel along w/ minor cracks. Lock is operable. Interior of lock shows file marks from recent fitting to bbl. Pitted bore.
