CHATELLERAULT CONVERTED TO NAVAL MUSKETOON. CAL. 69. NSN. Bbl. 22" has indecipherable proof at breech end. Lock w/ rounded tail to plate is engraved "Chatellerault". File marks on inset brass pan & frizzen have matching marks in lock mortise. Other internal lock markings on parts match number on lockplate, mainspring replaced. Feather spring has rounded finial. Stock w/ dished cheekpiece on left side of comb has a combination of iron & brass mts. Trigger guard bow is brass. Base of iron grip has finger grooves, buttplate is iron, 2 spring retained bands are brass. Ramrod has tapered brass head. CONDITION: iron parts cleaned w/ subsequent patina to gray brown. Lock has silver highlights, cock a possible replacement, but has matching file marks. Stock w/ hand worn old surface has numerous minor marks. Iron parts considerably pitted. Lock will not hold at full cock. Pitted bore. A good looking musketoon. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19735/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-2,000.
