CARBINE. Cal. 52 smoothbore. NSN. Standard configuration w/ 26" rounded bbl. secured by 2 spring retained bands w/ unusual sliding triangular bayonet mounted in ramrod channel w/ latch at muzzle. Boxlock percussion breech block is stamped “US / S. NORTH / MIDLn / CONN. / 1838”. Walnut stock is iron mounted. Trigger guard w/ 2 finger grooves extends to buttplate w/ implement compartment behind saddle ring. Left side of stock is stamped w/ inspector’s initials “NWP”. CONDITION: fair to good. Iron parts cleaned to silver/gray over dark scattered pitting. Top of action cleaned & rebrowned. Stock w/ old refinish has numerous marks & dents. Inspector’s mark is clear. Shiny bore. Mechanically good. This model was supplied to the 2nd US Dragoons for their initial service in FL. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-20466/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
