RIFLE. Cal. 8 x 52R mm (Type 66). S# 10688. Bbl. 29". No visible import mark except for electro pencil S# on left receiver rail. Tangent rear sight; rear sight shows evidence of having been altered by grinding to match the improved ballistics of the Type 66 cartridge. All graduations are in Siamese. Inverted “V” front sight. These rifles were mfg. in Japan for the Siamese government & are based on the Model 98 Mauser Action instead of the Japanese Arisaka design. Unaltered examples of these rifles are becoming increasingly scarce as a large number were stripped for the actions to use in the building of custom rifles. Receiver ring & bridge have Siamese characters. Receiver ring is also marked w/ “chakra”. Left receiver rail has interlocking circles indicating mfg. in Japan by Koishikawa Arsenal. Straight bolt handle. Receiver is fitted w/ sliding dust cover which is unmarked. Bayonet lug is present. Cleaning rod is not present. All milled furniture. Bottom swivels. Quick release floor plate. Buttplate has pivoting compartment cover. Non matching unmarked hardwood stock set. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework type finish. Buttstock has added finish w/ moderate wear, dents, staining & scratches throughout. Handguard has notably darker worn appearance. Metal has traces of blue in protected areas of action. Balance of metal is worn turning mostly patina. Dark oxidized bore. Lands have considerable wear. (22-3511/RW). CURIO. $700-1,000.
