MORION HELMET & 3 LEFT HAND STYLE DAGGERS.
1) MORION HELMET. Height: 11". Length" 15". Width: 9 1/8". The Morion w/ its characteristic high comb was introduced by the Spanish in the late 1500s to early 1600s. By the late 1600s, the style had been adopted throughout Europe. This example is likely a Victorian period copy of a Germanic Morion helmet w/ the characteristic fleur de lis on each side. An interesting feature of this helmet is that the 7 rivets on each side have brass Tudor roses as adornment. There is a plume holder at the back of the helmet. CONDITION: helmet has a dark oxidized finish throughout. Plume holder intact. Rivets all present. No liner. (02-13361/BF). 2) LEFT HAND DAGGER. Overall length: 16 1/4". Blade length: 11". Plain tapered blade has a cross stamped at the ricasso. Down turned iron guard w/ loop on 1 side. Iron octagonal pommel. Iron wire wrapped grip. Dagger is likely a well made early Victorian copy. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray cleaned finish. Guard & pommel have a dark patina. Grip wire shows oxidation. (02-13396/BF). 3) MAIN-GAUCHE DAGGER. Overall length: 16 1/2". Blade length: 12". Blade is etched over 2/3 of its length w/ gold highlighted foliate decoration. There are 2 circular piercings 2" up from the hilt. Blade is marked at the base "FABRICA D TOLEDO". Classic Main-Gauche iron hilt w/ 9 1/2" guard & etched knuckle bow. Wire wrapped grip w/ ferrules above & below. Iron mounted leather scabbard. Mounts have etched decoration to match the knuckle bow. Dagger is likely a late Victorian copy. CONDITION: blade & other iron parts show areas of dark oxidation, but etching remains clear. Blade retains much of the gilded decoration. Wire wrap is complete. Scabbard is complete but shows flexing to leather. Scabbard has shrunk & does not fit blade as designed. (02-13397/BF). 4) MAIN-GAUCHE DAGGER. Overall length: 20 1/4". Blade length: 14 1/2". Plain blade w/ 3 circular piercings 2 1/2" up from the hilt. Classic Main-Gauche iron hilt w/ 10 5/8" guard. Floral decorated knuckle bow w/ gadrooned edges. Gadgrooned pommel & swirled, wire wrapped grip. Dagger is likely a high quality, early Victorian copy. CONDITION: blade & other iron parts show a medium gray, lightly oxidized patina.
