This is an original exceptionally painted Buffalo hide from the renowned Mandan-Hidatsa Native American Indian, Dennis R. Fox II. The piece shows a wonderful pinwheel painted design with quill work, blanket strip and medallion like painted accents and buffalo skull painted effigy's. The piece is signed, Dennis R FOX II 55. Denis Fox II, of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota Indian name is shu-ga Nix-bitsi (DOG BEAR), is one of the most well known hide painters. He worked for the Smithsonian Institutions Folk Life Program in Washington, D.C. specializing in painted hides. The piece is in good condition shows some sewn patches in hide. The fur side of the hide is also in good condition with only a few small area showing fur loss. Measures 105"X83"
