Marlin Model 1881 .40-60 SN: 4218
Rare factory special order rifle manufactured circa 1883 wit extra long and extra heavy barrel. It is estimated that less than 150 rifles were made to these specifications. Features 30" heavy octagon barrel (1" across the flats), standard length magazine tube (slightly shorter than barrel), buckhorn sights with large front blade, straight grip, curved steel buttplate, fancy grained wood. Bore is good condition, bright with strong rifling, with what appears to be lead accumulation in the bore. Retains about 10% of the original blued finish, now mostly bare metal with some remnants of bluing in protected areas or in places on barrel, with light pitting on receiver sides, scratches, dents. Buttplate has mostly turned brown from patina and light pitting. Screw heads show marring. Forend is fair serviceable condition, with visible cracks and several dents. Butt is good condition, some dents & scratches, good fit to tang, some wood loss at toe of buttplate, covered with a thin varnish. Lever operates smoothly. Two line barrel address appears sharp & even depth. Condition is NRA Very Good - wood varnished *** Antique Firearm ***
