Marlin Model 1881 .40-60 SN: 6818
Lever action rifle chambered for 40-60, manufactured circa 1884. Features 28" octagon barrel, full length magazine tube, blade front & buckhorn rear sights, sliding magazine loading port cover. Bore is in good condition with clear rifling, smooth appearance of grooves with some shine, little visible darkness from pitting. Metal finish appears a consistent thin brownish color, with small areas of darker color on receiver right and along barrel. Edges of barrel flats appear slightly rounded, particularly forward of the forend. Receiver has long shallow scratches on sides in several parallel rows that follow the contour of the receiver shape; these show as slightly darker in color than surrounding metal, Forend is in fair condition with many small dents, some small gouges, and a replaced area at right side rear. Stock is fair condition with many scrapes and gouges; slight amount of shrinkage at tang. Buttplate is a bit loose, appears screws need gentle tightening. Action operates smoothly and appears to function properly. Two line address & patent marking is sharp and readable, somewhat shallower on patent line. Serial number stamping remains deep. Barrel top is marked "40 CAL" at breech. Condition is NRA Good ***Antique Firearm***
