Antique Marlin Model 1891 1st Type Takedown Lever Action Rifle, #59602, .22 S-L-LR RF cal., 24'' octagonal barrel with dovetailed blade front and notched rear sights, is marked with the maker's name, address and 1878-89-90 patent dates in two lines ahead of rear sight; half-length under-barrel mag tube; solid frame with right-side cartridge loading and ejection ports and knurled takedown knob is marked ''Marlin Safety'' flanked by feather-like finials on top, and ''59602'' at bottom front; loop operating lever; varnished walnut stocks with steel nosecap and crescent rifle buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1895. Condition is very good. Barrel and mag tube retain perhaps 30% thin finish darkening to blue/brown; receiver, nosecap and buttplate are dark gunmetal gray; lever and hammer show hints of case colors but are mostly silvered out. Stocks are smooth and solid showing scattered age/use marks and darkening, and most of an added varnish finish. Action is smooth; bore is bright with shallow rifling. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)*
