Marlin Model 1893 Lever Action Carbine, #158765, .32-40 cal., 20" barrel, blue and color case hardened finish, smooth walnut straight grip stock and forend, sling swivels with leather rifle sling, smooth steel crescent buttplate, pinned blade front sight, rear sight has been removed and the dovetail filled with a blank. An adjustable receiver sight was added at the left rear of the receiver. Mfg'd 1897. Carbine is in good overall condition, retaining considerable blue finish on the replacement barrel, with the magazine gone to a mottled gray patina, showing general wear and some mild surface erosion. Receiver displays traces of smoky gray color case hardened finish, drifting to dark patina, with silvered finish at the edges. Lever and hammer show brighter color in the protected areas. Stock is in good condition, with general dents and scratches. There is an old, crude repair at both sides of the wrist, with a 1.5" hairline crack on the right side; buttplate is proud around the perimeter and at the toe. Action functions well and locks up securely. Bore is good, with some areas of light erosion and well-defined rifling. The attached consignor note indicates the carbine was his father's deer rifle, and that he changed the barrel to a carbine in the 1950's. The barrel appears to be a correct Model 1893 carbine barrel. Est.: $600-$800. (Antique)
