Marlin Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle, #231888, .25-20M cal., 24'' octagon barrel, metal retains no original finish, plain straight grip walnut stock and forend, crescent steel buttplate, Rocky Mountain type front sight, semi-buckhorn rear sight with elevator. Barrel with the standard two-line ''August 1, 1893'' last patent date address; upper tang is marked ''MODEL / 1894''; top of receiver ''MARLIN SAFETY''. Rifle was mfg'd in 1901 and therefore is not drilled and tapped for the Hepburn receiver sight. Condition is good. Metal is mostly silvery gray in color with patches of cloudy dark spotting, some moderate cleaned pitting that occurs mainly on the barrel and magazine tube. Factory lettering is clear and defined. Barrel near the receiver with a few toolmarks. Wood has been lightly sanded leaving intermittent dark impressions and scratches, as well as a small reveal at some of the adjoining metal surfaces. Overall wood retains a good color and a linseed oil type finish. Crisp lever with a smooth hammer and trigger; dark lightly frosted bore with good rifling. Est.: $400-$600. (C&R)
