Lever action rifle manufactured circa 1897. Features 26" octagon barrel, full length magazine tube, buckhorn sights, straight grip, steel crescent buttplate. Bore is good condition, frosted & lightly pitted with strong rifling. The action displays a bright silvery gray color, with slight mottling of color, some light shallow pitting, small dents & scratches. Barrel retains much blued finish, turning gray, thinning or showing bare metal at edges. Magazine tube shows a brownish patina color across the bottom and sides, with darker blue retained on visible top surfaces next to barrel. Buttplate is bare metal with light coverage of patina and thin rust. Screw heads show lightly marred slots. Wood is good condition, varnished, overall good fit to metal, scratches & shallow dents, some oil staining where wood touches metal. Action operates smoothly. Markings are sharp & readable, some letters in two line barrel address show as slightly shallow. Includes letter from Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center describing features for this rifle contained in the original Marlin factory records.
