'Saddle Ring Carbine' manufactured circa 1896. Features 22" round barrel, full length magazine tube, blade front sight, flip up ladder type rear sight, straight grip, curved steel carbine buttplate, saddle ring. Bore is very good condition, lightly frosted or pitted with strong rifling. Blued finish has largely turned a dull gray at the action, with bare metal at high spots and all edges. Barrel and magazine tube show darker color, some brighter blue remains in protected areas. Bands are mostly bare metal with light pitting or dents. Buttplate is bare metal with light coverage of patina and thin rust. Screw heads show light pitting, marred slots. Wood is good condition, varnished, overall good fit to metal, many dents (especially along bottom of butt), loss or thinning of finish on forend and at toe of butt, darkened wood at wrist. Action operates smoothly. Markings are sharp & readable. Includes letter from Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center describing features for this rifle contained in the original Marlin factory records.
