Matched Pair of French Flintlock Small Muff or Coat Pistols, NVSN, approx. .46 smoothbore cal., 3-1/8 tapered octagon-to-round unmarked iron barrels. Octagonal portions of barrels, along with bands at muzzles, appear to originally have been gold washed. Matching iron furniture, including delicately formed serpentine cocks. One lockplate engraved ''Freconnet'', the other ''St. Etienne'' in matching script (likely Andre-Jacques Freconnet, who worked in St. Etienne circa the mid-18th Century). Nicely grained walnut stocks are floral relief carved behind the barrel tang, around lockplates and sideplates, front and rear triggerguard tangs, and ramrod thimbles. The pair appear to be in original flintlock configuration, with un-bushed touchholes. Modern made partitioned walnut display case with burl top. Condition is very good to fine with smooth patinated metal and clear markings. Stocks are solid showing fine carving and nice color. Actions are tight and crisp, bores should clean bright. Est.: $3,000-$4,000. (Antique)(Joe Poyer collection)
