Mauser Amberg 1890 GEW 88 - 8 x 57 Rifle Made in Germany

Overall condition of this rifle is very good ... a 7/10 for sure..

Wood is sound with no cracks and the usual bumps and dents for a gun this age..

Metal reatins 60% original finish and bore appears good. Shoots the Military 8mm Round.

Very difficult to actually nail down exactly this rifles history as it was used by so many forces
from 1890 through to to WW1.

This rifle is stamped Gew 88 on left side.. so ...
The Gewehr 88 (commonly called the Model 1888 commission rifle) was a late
19th-century German bolt-action rifle, adopted in 1888.

Other marks stamped are "S" on receiver - Czech Honor Guard?
"H" on bolt - reworked in Hanover Germany
Cresent Moon on bolt - Turkey Ottoman Empire

The Model 1890 rifle was one of a series of rifles purchased by the Turkish
government from Mauser of Germany. The terms of the contract with Mauser
enabled the Turks to change the specifications of the rifles supplied, so as to keep
pace with any new design developments which Mauser introduced into its products.
The M1890 rifle was based on the Belgian Model 1889 rifle and represented a
major advance on the M1887 design which preceded it.
