Rare Mauser C-96 Broomhandle Pistol, made circa 1903 with a production run between 1896 and 1937. Imported by Von Lengerke & Detmold, a well-respected New York dealer of fine European-made sporting guns and fishing tackle. They were founded in 1882 and was sold to Abercrombie & Fitch in 1928. The Mauser Construktion 96 was the Mauser Company’s most successful pistol. 5.5" barrel, S/N 33669. Eight visible numbers matching, including the magazine follower. Blued finish with matching 34-line wood grips and stock groove. Blade front sight with 50-1000 tangent rear sight and "large ring" hammer, shallow-milled panel. Underside of barrel marked with three proofs. Left side of barrel marked with serial number, proof marks, top of barrel marked with three-line Mauser Orberndorf address. Left side of frame marked with three-line Von" Lengerke & Detmold New York" address. Right side of frame marked with two-line "Mauser Oberndorf A Neckar" Lanyard ring replaced with a key ring. Action is smooth, bore is good with strong rifling, lightly pitted in the grooves, wood is very good, blue finish is about 60% with handling wear, mostly on the magazine, some scratches by the safety. Comes with original but mismatched shoulder stock/holster numbered "195"., very good condition, appears to have been lightly sanded at some point. Comes with the book System Mauser, where this model is discussed and known serial numbers of guns that went to Von Lengerke. (Pages 88-89) NRA Condition-Good. C&R Firearm.
