Mauser/CAI C96 'Red Nine 9mm SN: 19927
German military contract single action semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9x19mm. Manufactured by Mauser circa 1915-1918 and imported by CAI of St. Albans, VT with import marks on the underside of the barrel. Though the standard sidearm of the German Army was the P.08, during WWI they ordered 150,000 C96 pistols chambered in 9mm Parabellum to offset the slow production of the Luger pistol. Features a blued finish, 5.5" barrel, blade front sight, tangent rear sight graduated to 1,000 meters, smooth trigger, small ring hammer, manual safety on the rear of the grip frame, integral 10 round box magazine, steel frame with stock slot & lanyard loop on the butt, and two-piece 20-groove reproduction walnut grips with red painted "9"s branded into each panel. All observed serial numbers on the pistol are matching with the exception of the 1,000 meter rear sight, marked “105”. Includes a period wooden stock/holster that is unmarked on the metal. The inside of the lid is marked with a six digit number in pencil and is also stamped with a “P”. Pistol exhibits approximately 10% of its blued finish with the balance of the metal surfaces turned to an aged grey/brown patina with some scattered pitting and a partial shallow ring on the outside of the barrel 1 ?” from the muzzle. Action is crisp, the bore is very good with strong rifling & scattered pitting and the forced matched wood grips are very good but ill-fitting. Condition is NRA Good. ***C&R Firearm***
