Bronze bladed "Powder Monkey" knife with 2 old attached paper tags. 1 tag on the blade roads "found in cabin of the Merrimac which was sunk 2 years" large research folio of in formation accompanies this lot baiscally documenting purchase in 1937 by Vera Ammen bought it for Daddy on our trip etc., and its sale to prominent collector Jack Trotter of Oregon to "Bob Butterfield" of Grass Valley, CA. Ammen was Commander of the Merrimack although there was no direct relationship to be found.
A) The knife measures 13" with 5-1/4" Broomhand le Corp. 1-1/4" wide bronze blade showing use and distortion of tip and edge fro prying and use. Heavy patina tags are old. Fair to poor condition.
B) Cast bronze plaque reading "Association of Edison Illumination Companies, 44th Annual Meeting, Old Point Comfort, October 1-5, 1928." Iron from plating of Ironclad Merrimac - 1862." Scene of ship with overlay of Iron from this famous ironclad. Measures 2-1/2" x 3-1/4."
C) Souvenir anchor made from Iron of Merrimac Virginia. on original car. Old Dominion Iron and Nail works.
D) Post card 1909 dated of Battle Monitor and Merrimac. Fair to good condition.
