Manufactured by Hopkins and Allen from 1876 to 1880. Six shot. Single-Action. 7" round barrel, standard nickel plated finish. Early Model open top, without topstrap, scoop type cylinder flutes. Birds head "Skull Crusher" butt. Unique loading, & extraction mechanism, barrel twists sideways and when pulled forward with cylinder attached extracts cartridges. Sliding loading gate. Merwin Hulbert address, and patent dates on top of the barrel, and Hopkins, & Allen address on left barrel. Left frame marked "Calibre Winchester 1873". Some of the marking are somewhat faint, but readable. Checkered hard rubber grips. Serial number 4186 is on the bottom of the frame under the right grip. Assembly number 2215 is on the cylinder pin, the face of the barrel lug, and on the left frame under the grip. Bore looks pretty good with the rifling present, needs cleaning, grips are very good, cylinder rotates when cocked most of the time, but sticks at times. Nickel finish id about 60%, with scratches, and handling loss, mostly on the cylinder, straps, and triggerguard, turning a brown patina in places. NRA Condition-Very Good as Antique. Antique Firearm.
