Mexican Army Shako
18" tall leather leather Mexican Army Shako. Circa mid 1800's. (Alamo, Mexican-American War) Leather backed brass overlapping/linked chin scales with plain swivel pots. Diamond-shaped insignia of stamped brass with a gilt wash. The pre-revolution version of the Mexican national coat of arms in bas-relief dominates the center, with a finely-pebbled background with the eagle with rattlesnake in it's mouth. Red, white, & green rosette, and pom-pom, brass edged visor. Has the controversial 'roundel' painted in green, white, & red on top of the shako, paint appears to have been on there a very long time. The shako is intact, and overall very good condition, but the pom-pom is loose, and there are just remnants of the leather liner. From the Joseph Musso Collection
