Four-piece red wool construction with quilted chest and silk sleeve lining. Green cuff and collar facing with silver bullion collar embroidery. Coattails with embroidered turn backs depicting sabers, arrow quivers, and liberty cap. Front with ten 22mm coat-size cast "REPUBLICA MEXICANA" buttons, with an additional ten on tails. Functional cuffs secured with four 14mm buttons. Nineteen coat buttons show "LEDSAM AND SONS LONDON" backmarks, with cuff buttons devoid of backmarks. Machine-stitched buttonholes with hand stitching in lining, collar, and other detailed areas. This uniform was displayed in the “Battle for Texas: The Experience”, exhibit in San Antonio Texas, and was attributed to Lieutenant Santiago Tapia, the officer who was assigned to return to Mexico City after the Battle of the Alamo and bring news of the Mexican victory. This lot includes accessories from the Santiago display, including Lieutenant's epaulettes, Morocco leather sword belt, sash, crossbelt, moleskin trousers, and boots.  **Fine condition. Some minor moth holes to body with lining intact. Some small areas of repair, including reattached buttons and reinforced stitching, likely museum conservation work. Bullion is in excellent condition with only some minor areas of missing wire. Accessories in good condition. Very likely a coat worn later in the career of Tapia, who ended his service as a General.** Provenance “Battle for Texas: The Experience”, San Antonio, Texas $3,000-$5,000
