"N.Y.S.T."-Marked Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Carbine, #857240, .30 W.C.F. (.30-30) cal., 20" round barrel marked with maker's name, address and 1894 patent date, "Nickel Steel Barrel/Especially for Smokeless Powder" and caliber at left; receiver has right loading, top ejection, bottom loop operating lever, is marked "Model 1894/Winchester" and trade mark-pat. off. data on top tang; walnut forend has a single band, matching buttstock (marked "8") with carbine buttplate (marked "99/N.Y.S.T." at top screw). Mfg'd. 1919. Condition is fine retaining approx. 85% thinning barrel blue, 50% mag tube blue, 95% receiver, hammer, and lever blue; traces of blue on buttplate but mostly gunmetal gray. Stocks are sound and smooth with general use marks, dings, a half-inch gouge at left forend and most oil finish. Edges and markings are sharp, action is crisp, bore is bright showing light frosting and sharp rifling. Stampings may mean "New York State Trooper #99, Barracks 8." Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (C&R)
