NAVAL TRUNK & EARLY MILITARY LEATHER.

1) NAVAL TRUNK. A lg. sail canvas covered, wicker trunk w/ a reinforced leather bottom measuring approx. 26" x 16" x 22". The top of the trunk is stenciled, “COMD. T. PORTER. U.S.N. ANNAPOLIS. M.D.”. The left end is marked, “T. P. / U.S.N.”. Theodoric Porter was the son of Admiral David Dixon Porter & attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He had a long naval career w/ active service through the Spanish American War. CONDITION: trunk shows significant wear likely from years of rigorous sea duty. The stenciling on the canvas is quite clear. Some of the interior wicker shows breaks. The leather outer base is present but detached & has losses. (02-15720/BF).
2) LEATHER GROUP. This varied group of leather includes a M1902 officer’s garrison belt w/ all associated sword straps. / A M1921 officer’s Sam Brown garrison belt w/ all associated straps & pouches. / A M1912 ACP holster w/ embossed “US” in oval on the flap. Flap is also stamped, “2 Battery. / Virginia.”. / A well worn M1885 carbine boot. / A McKeever cartridge box w/ embossed “NG” in oval on the front. / A well worn M1851 saber belt w/ no buckle. / A leather drum sling. / 3 Indian War era leather straps. / A rifle sling marked, “L-F CO, 1918” w/ a break. / A Spanish American War era canteen sling. / A M1874 belt w/ no buckle. CONDITION: all items show light to moderate wear except as noted. (02-15749/BF). $600-900.
