WITH SCROLL ENGRAVING AND GOOD AMOUNT OF ORIGINAL SILVER PLATE WITH CASE. Cal. 31. S# 202 (on frame under left grip). The 3 1/2" octagonal blued barrel with 1" rotating loading port at muzzle and integral tubular magazine on bottom marked "NEW HAVEN CONN" AND "PATENT FEBRUARY 14 1864". Small sized frame with ring lever fitted with V notch rear sight was originally silver plated and engraved with sprays of large open scroll and some acanthus within dot and line borders. Top of action and backstrap engraved in feather motif. No other markings are present on exterior. Flat bottom grips of figured American walnut have serial numbers stamped on the inside of each grip. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: housed in an old mahogany case with key lock closure and inlet brass shield in top, lined in black velvet. Covered compartment has ivory knob. CONDITION: fine. Barrel retaining about 40% original blue. The balance flaked to gray/brown. Action retains approx. half of its original silver plate. Exposed brass nicely toned to dark mustard. Sharp edges are preserved. Bolt retains about half of its bright blue, cartridge lifter with traces of blue. Traces of original case hardening color are on lever and about half color is present on hammer. Stocks retain most of their original varnish finish with some light marks. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically good. Exterior of case appears to be refinished with many old marks. Interior cloth correctly renewed and shows some wear. (01-20917/MGM). ANTIQUE. $8,000-12,000.
