NEW YORK ENGRAVED COLT SAA REVOLVER.

Cal. 44-40. S# 74481. Bbl. shortened to 4 3/4" w/ one line Hartford address. German silver blade replacement front sight. Black powder frame. Six shot fluted cyl. Shipped w/ soft finish, this gun has nearly full coverage New York trade engraving. Sides of frame, bbl., ejector housing, cyl. & backstrap have vine type foliate scroll engraving w/ beaded backgrounds, star & floral highlights w/ zigzag & straight line borders. One piece ivory grips are adorned w/ stylized angel & skeleton scrimshaw. Frame & grip straps have matching S#s. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt Manufacturing Company letter dated Oct. 30, 2015. Letter states the following: "Serial Number: 74481. Caliber: .44/40. Barrel Length: Not Listed. Finish: Soft. Types of Stocks: Not Listed. Shipped To: J. P. Moores Sons. Address: New York, New York. Date of Shipment: November 10, 1881. Remarks: As noted above, the records do not provide information with regard to the barrel length of subject revolver or the type of stocks. However, this is usually an indication of a 7 1/2" barrel length and walnut stocks as these were considered standard issue for that time period. The word "soft" which appears with the finish indicates subject revolver was shipped without final finishing for engraving outside our factory". CONDITION: metal finish has faded to gray showing spots of corrosion retaining a sm. amount of nickel finish in protected areas. Ivory grips have acquired a pleasing mellow patina showing some checking. Sound mechanics. The bore retains sound rifling, showing scattered spots of very light pitting. (01-20263/DS).
